April 19, 2015 BAL@BOS Game 12

April 20, 2015 11:30 AM

I didn't watch the game yesterday and went out with my girlfriend. I tried not to check the score too often and fortunately I didn't ruin our day out.

Porcello wasn't off to a good start and the Sox was 0-2 in the top of the 1st. But Ramirez quickly hit a blast in return and that almost made me shout in the cafe shop. However Procello really wasn't sharp in the game and the Sox was not hitting well. Ortiz was even ejected in the 5th inning out of frustration.

Big Papi should really calm down and find a way to hit instead of simply venting out his frustration, even if that's a terrible call from the 3rd plate umpire. He's a veteran and I trust him to quickly adjust in the next game. The Sox really need to overpower their opponents in hitting to cover their weakness in starters.

Porcello was finally out in the 6th inning after giving up a 3-run double. I felt sad for him.

After getting back home I checked what happened in the rest of the game. Craig Breslow and Edward Mujica did a good job and combined 3 hits, 3 strike outs, and no earned runs in 4 innings. But the Sox's hitting had no life. The final score was 3-8.

The Sox is now one game behind the Orioles in this series. I hope they can win tomorrow to tie it.

April 18, 2015 BAL@BOS Game 11

April 18, 2015 11:42 PM

Clay Buchholz at least gave us a "quality start" and went through 6 innings, but his 4th and 5th innings were just terrible. He's quite lucky having only 2 ERs while giving up 11 hits. The Sox was not hitting pretty well either and I went out after Alexi Ogando was up.

I was in Costco and Target and my phone signal was bad. It was very difficult to get update from the At Bat app. When I finally left the Sox lost 1-4. This was frustrating.

One thing I noticed was Henley Ramirez really fields like Manny Ramirez. I hope he hits like Manny too.

April 17, 2015 BAL@BOS Game 10

April 18, 2015 02:19 PM

I really like how Joe Kelly pitches this season. He has good stuff and the kind of mentality a good pitcher should have. His reaction on the filed reminds me of Josh Beckett back in 2007. He was pretty solid last night but suffered an unlucky 4th inning and an unfortunate solo homer which Victorino failed to catch. But overall he attacked the corners and away pretty well. He is the most stable starter in the rotation so far.

I don't quite like the decision John Farrell made to keep Kelly on the mound in the 6th inning. I have no problem with the game plan that Mujica for the 7th and Tazawa for the 8th, but Kelly was over a hundred pitches and you can clearly see that he starts to lose control. After a wild pitch and an walk, he's out. Mujica was in and ended the inning. Kelly recorded 118 pitches in the end.

The game became a bit of a drag after that so I fired up my Apple TV and started watching Star Wars: A New Hope the third or fourth time in my life. My girlfriend started getting bored and turned to play some games on my phone. When Luke and Obi-Wan was busy searching for a pilot in Mos Eisley Cantina, my girlfriend saw a notification popping up on my phone and told me, "Xander Bo... gaer... I can't pronounce his name! He hits a walk-off single. What's a walk-off single?"

I smiled but cursed myself missing this great moment.

April 15, 2015 WSH@BOS Game 9

April 15, 2015 11:50 AM

Koji returned and looked great last night, and it's also quite a relief seeing that both Xander Bogaerts and Pablo Sandoval's injuries are cleared. Sandoval will take a day off and Brock Hold will play third base today. Is there any position Holt can't handle?

Papi will sit and Allen Craig will start first base, moving Napoli to DH. Besides the starting rotation, the depth of position players this season of the Sox is pretty deep and versatile. Love that.

April 15, 2015 7:06 PM

The Sox always lose on Ben Affleck's birthday. It seems I'm in the same league with Ben today. Wade Miley was terrible and the Sox lost 5-10 in the end.

I believe in good pitching. No quality start, no winning. I find myself having little faith in Masterson and Miley. Bucky is good but each time he's out there pitching is like rolling a dice. You'd never know which Bucky you'd see that night. With a rotation like this, if the Sox is going to win they need to really overpower opponents with hitting. This doesn't look good in the long run to me.

The Sox is having a day off tomorrow and facing the Orioles on Friday. I hope they can win that series too.

April 14, 2015 WSH@BOS Game 8

April 14, 2015 4:33 PM

Xander is out of the lineup tonight. NESN reported he had a knee injury. I hope it would be minor so he can be back in a few days. Sometimes I have a feeling the Sox is cursed with injuries. Fingers cross.

April 14, 2015 10:31 PM

Rusney Castillo hurt his shoulder again. No idea when he will be back. With the way the outfield looks right now, the Sox should be good without him at the moment. The really bad news is about Workman's elbow. I think he might be gone for the season. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Despite the stellar performance in his last outing, Justin Masterson was terrible tonight. I really like him, so it made me sad seeing him struggle. Fortunately Stephen Strasburg was no better and the Nationals fielded laughably so the Sox won in the end.  However I think this is how Masterson will be this season: several gems here and there, and not so good for the rest.

Pablo Sandoval was hit by Strasburg and suffered foot contusion. I know this team is cursed. It's always injury plagued.

Paddy looks great tonight and Brock Holt too. Holt, Bogaerts, and Betts. I'm so happy we have these young players contributing. Sox has won all three series since the season starts. Hope they can clinch the final game tomorrow.

April 13, 2015 WSH@BOS Game 7: The Opening Day

April 13, 2015 9:35 AM

On my way to the office this morning I didn't see lots of people wearing Red Sox garments. I wonder if this is because people in Boston become less excited over these years or simply because of the frustration and disappointment last night.

Although the Red Sox won the series in New York the past weekend, they lost 4-14 in the last game. Clay Buchholz was totally disastrous in the first inning and that kind of set the tone of the game. I don't think Clay is going to be the kind of ace he claimed to become despite the tremendous performance in his season opener.

There are two things I'm worrying about the current Sox: Papi and Napoli are not hitting, and moreover, which Clay are we going to see this year?

Anyway, they finally finished those road games and came back home with 4-2. The home opener will start later but anxiety instead of excitement fills my mind.

April 13, 2015 11:30 PM

I ended up staying in the office working and constantly checking Gameday update. The Nationals played terribly so the Sox won without any problem. Jordan Zimmerman was so frustrated that in the third inning he hit Ramirez and Sandoval in a row. I can't blame him, because I was kind of hoping Bucky hitting some Yankees batters last night. I really isn't a good person.

Today's game is all about Mookie Betts. Oh Mookie, he's just everywhere. The robbing of 3-run homer from Bryce Harper, the extraordinary two bases stealing,  and the 3-run homer.  It's great to see both him and Xander Bogaerts are playing so well early in the season.

Other good news: Pocello seems to be quite solid, and Papi and Napoli start to hit.
